Report on Self-defense Training Programme for Women, by Women Development Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, Keezhattur on 22 June 2022 at 11 am

Self-defense Training Programme for Women' was conducted by the Women Development Cell
(WDC), Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, Keezhattur, on June 22, 2022 in association with
Malappuram District Police for female students. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Babu. P.K,
Principal, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, Keezhatur, and in his talk he mentioned the relevance
of self-defense for the self-protection of the girls. The session was coordinated by Ashida A.P, Asst.
Professor and WDC Coordinator. The programmed was handled by Ms. K. Valsala (Senior Civil
Police Officer, Master Trainer) and her team consisting Ms. V.J Soniya Mable and P Geetha (Senior
Police Officers).

Ms. K Valsala stressed the relevance of self-defense and emphasised the need to avoid combative situations and she shared a video relating various techniques for facing such situations. In the session, the team educated the audience with various protective and preventive measures which women can use to protect themselves against atrocities they face. They demonstrated various physical techniques for students to prevent harassment in public transport, physical attacks, and so on. She and her team members gave instructions on way to defend and counter attack when the need arise. They
demonstrated how to use various body parts as weapons and how to direct them at an attacker's
vulnerable points, as well as how to escape and retaliate in each situation. The self- defense training
programme has become a great success. All the students gave positive feedback and requested to
conduct similar programmes in the future.
