The College has a library which caters to the academic and general needs of the staff and students. The Library is completely automated. It has membership in the N-list Programme under INFLIBNET. Activities to attract and motivate the students in to reading and to inculcate a love of books are organised by the library. It also takes up outreach events for the public around the College. Situated in a separate space, it provides the following facilities.

TEXT BOOK BANK

The College library has a Text Book Bank which stocks essential textbooks in all subjects. These books are issued to students who cannot afford them and the book bank facility helps poor students to prepare for University examinations as they can borrow these books for longer period of time.

INTERNET FACILITY

The College Library also provides web OPAC, Internet browsing and Digital Library.

PHOTOSTAT FACILITY

The College Library has Photostat facility so that the students can take copies as per library rules and copy right rules.

LIBRARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The College has a Library Advisory Committee (LAC) which periodically takes stock of the acquisition, running, updating of the books and the services offered. It also advices and recommends on the purchase of books and journals and provision for facilities to be added. The Committee meets every term and also assesses the staff and student perceptions about the operation of the library.

BEST READER AWARD -2022-23

The Library Council at Al Shifa College of Arts and Science has instituted the Best Reader Award among students, to appreciate students who make the maximum use of the library resources and facilities. This is to promote proper utilization of library facilities and services by the students.

The selection of the best student user was based on a predefined set of parameters like, regular use of library service, effective utilisation of the time spend in library, number of books taken from the library (Academic Journals, general books), usage of online resources, and participation/presentation in Club activities, Blog and more based on books from library. Their contributions to college newsletter, magazine and 'Ente Vayana' based on books from the college library are also counted for the same.

As per the evaluation, two students were shortlisted for the award:

  • Akshay Kumar. K , IV Semester BA Economics
  • Fathima Safa. V, IV Semester BA Functional English

The awardee in last academic year is Fathima Safa. V of fourth semester BA Functional English.
