Activities

One notable event hosted by the Centre is the Visiting Professor Programme, conducted in collaboration with the departments of English and Economics. This program facilitated interactions between experienced faculty in professorial ranks and faculty members of the respective departments. Eminent professors such as Dr. Kunhammed. K. K, Professor at the Department of Studies in English, Kannur University; Dr. Joseph Koyipally, Head of the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Central University of Kerala; Dr. Biju Mathew, Coordinator and Head of the Centre for Development Studies at University of Calicut; and Dr. Abdul Azeez N. P, from the Department of Economics at Aligarh Muslim University, Delhi, were among those who visited the campus.

FaBlo, the Faculty Blog, provided a platform for faculty members to share insights and experiences, fostering a culture of knowledge exchange. The blog, initiated in 2021, has covered over 400 English/Malayalam write-ups by faculty members. A panel scrutinized and judged the best blogs towards the end of every month and recognized them. The culmination of this creative venture was the book, ‘The FaBlo!: An Anthology of Faculty Blogs,’ which compiled the winning and shortlisted blogs of these years. The book was released in 2023.

Five-day Faculty Development programs were organized in partnership with the departments of English and Commerce, respectively. The Department of Commerce collaborated with their knowledge partners to organize a Multi-Campus FDP on Gamification of the Commerce Classroom, while the Department of English conducted a five-day virtual FDP on Blended Learning.

Another innovative initiative by the centre, “Let’s Talk Teaching,” commenced in September 2023 in connection with Teachers’ Day. This initiative involved publishing posters containing brief messages from teachers across various institutions, including schools and higher education institutions (HEIs). The series has successfully completed 200 days, highlighting the commitment to promoting dialogue and sharing insights among educators.

Poster It! is an ongoing contest initiated by the FDC in 2021, encouraging teachers to create event posters. This initiative aims to cultivate design skills among faculty members, ultimately improving the quality of the posters. Each month, the best poster designer is acknowledged and recognized for their creativity and talent.

The FDC encouraged faculty members to create dedicated websites. These Faculty Websites are maintained by faculty members to upload and store study materials and showcase academic achievements. They serve as centralized hubs where students can access curated educational resources.

With a focus on enhancing the academic writing skills of faculty members, the FDC provided support to departments in publishing books on academic subjects. The departments of Commerce, English, and Economics brought out books such as “Digital Disruption: Commerce, Business, and Industry,” “Marginality and Resistance in Contemporary Culture,” “Interdisciplinary Insights: A Compilation of Undergraduate Student Projects,” and “Knowledge Economy: Prospects of Kerala.

The Centre conducted the Faculty Orientation Programme to familiarize new faculty members with the college’s academic environment, policies, resources, and expectations, ensuring a smooth transition into their roles. Additionally, it organized sessions on Basic Videography Skills for Teachers, equipping faculty with essential skills for creating engaging educational content through multimedia.

The FDC facilitated Faculty Exchange Programme, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing among educators from different institutions. The Centre collaborated with the Department of English to organize a faculty exchange program with MES KeeVeeYam College, Valancherry, and Providence College for Women, (Autonomous) Coonoor, The Nilgiris.

It also arranged Book Review Sessions, Workshops on Outcome-Based Education and Blended Learning, as well as sessions on AI and ChatGPT, showcasing its commitment to continuous learning and innovation in pedagogy. Recognizing the importance of mental and physical health, the Centre also offered monthly physical training sessions, emphasizing the well-being of faculty members.
