Various Departments at Al Shifa College of Arts and Science observed World no-Tobacco Day on 01 June 2021, so as to create awareness among the students on the toxic effects of smoking.

The programme in Department of English commenced at 11.10 am with a talk by Mrs. Saritha. K, Head, Department of English, on the ill-effects of tobacco on active as well as passive smokers. She also talked about how the addicted people find it too hard to get rid of their habit of smoking and about its harmful consequences. This was followed by the Pledge Taking event. Mohamed Shalikh, administered the pledge to the other students of Second Semester BA Functional English along with a power point presentation of the pledge. The programme was wound up at 11. 20 am after the Pledge Taking. Mrs. Sabina. Assistant Professor of English and class tutor coordinated the event.

Department of Economics conducted the program between 11am and 12 pm on Google meet. Mr. Muhammed Noufal M, Head, Department of Economics, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, explained the effect of tobacco on primary and secondary smokers. He also mentioned major poisons in tobacco and its impact on health. He addressed the students to take initiative to start campaign against tobacco use. He also mentioned that if someone is addicted to tobacco use, there is a possibility to rehabilitate by providing nicotine replacement therapy and other medical assistance. He informed students that Nicotine is the poisonous ingredient in tobacco which damages our internal organs as well as blood cells. Following the presentation Ms. Shahma, Mentor, II Sem, Department of Economics, addressed the students by administering the pledge given by UGC. All the student’s took the oath.

The department also conducted a Quiz to make the students aware of the facts related to tobacco. The session came to an end at 12 pm.

In Department of Commerce the programme commenced at 11.10 am with a talk by Mr. Rohith. R, Head, Department of Commerce, explaining the harmful aspects of smoking and how itdirectly or indirectly affects one’s lungs. This was followed by the Pledge Taking event. Salukripa M administered the pledge to the other students of Second Semester B Com Finance and B ComTaxation along with a PowerPoint presentation of the pledge. The programme was wound up at 11.30 am after the Pledge Taking. Mrs. Ashida A P. Assistant Professor of Commerce coordinated the event.
