The department of English, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, commemorated the birth anniversary of the former Indian president, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam (13 October ’21) on 20 October ’21 on G meet. The students of first- and second-year BA Functional English presented a speech on their dream and how that would contribute to the development and wellbeing of the nation. The event was titled “I too have a Dream”. Most of the students reflected on the current state of the nation that is flooded with highly educated youths who are deprived of a befitting career. Students like Afshida and Basila Sherin, both the students of II BA Functional English, talked of becoming a teacher and how teachers blend education and moral values and there by produce generations of youths who would contribute to the growth of nation. Rinshi Nasri of II BA Functional English was resolved to become a flight attender which would be first of its kind from her family. She added that such decisions would empower the girls in her family and the empowered women would serve to be the backbone of the society. Fathima Safa of I BA Functional English, Fathima Febin of second BA Functional English and other students came up with their wish list and the event concluded at 1.pm following a vote of thanks by Fathima Rana of I BA Functional English. The event commenced with a welcome note by Mohamed Shalikh of second BA Functional English at 11.50 am. Faculty members of the department of English were present during the event.
