A Bridge Course on Basics of English Pronunciation was offered to the students of Third Semester B. A. Functional English on Basics of English Pronunciation which is a part of the University prescribed program FEN3BO4, Applied Phonetics, from 4 to 14 July 2022. The course was covered in 10 hours. Bridge Course is a preparatory course for students who learn subjects that are new to them. The Third Semester BA Functional English students are familiar with the technical aspects of the language, but not so with the application part. This bridge course helped them to get basic practical knowledge of the basic speech sound in English.

The course content was divided into three modules, Long and Short Vowels, Voiced and Voiceless Consonants and Stress Variations in Nouns and Adjectives. The module was designed and the sessions were handled by Ms. Saritha. K., Head, Dept. of English. She made them practice and familiarize themselves with the various speech sounds through exercise and activities. Students were given a one-to-one evaluation to improve their pronunciation and minimize mother tongue influence. A post-course practical test was given to the students on 15 July 2022. Ms. Renjitha. K. R, Asst. Prof. of English and Ms. Saritha. K, Head, Dept. of English were the examiners. Mr. Midhulaj. P, Asst. Professor, Dept. of English, coordinated the running of the Bridge Course.
