The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Alshifa College of Arts and Science, Keezhattur, organized a Reading Forum session for the Fifth Semester B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics students on 24 June 2026. As part of the programme, Fathima Dilna Shifa presented a talk on “Turmeric – A Natural Medicine in Your Kitchen.”
The presentation highlighted the traditional uses of turmeric in daily life and its significance in various systems of traditional medicine. The speaker discussed the bioactive compound curcumin and its anti-inflammatory properties, emphasizing its role in promoting health and preventing disease. The session also covered the potential health benefits of turmeric, including its antioxidant and therapeutic effects.
In addition, the presenter explained the possible side effects associated with excessive consumption of turmeric and the precautions that should be taken, particularly among individuals with certain medical conditions or those taking specific medications. The session was informative and engaging, enhancing students’ understanding of the medicinal value of turmeric while encouraging reading, research, and knowledge-sharing among peers. The programme provided an excellent platform for developing communication and presentation skills and promoting scientific awareness among students.
