On August 7, 2026, an awareness programme commemorating World Breastfeeding Week was conducted at Keezhattur Anganwadi , situated under Keezhattur Panchayat, organized by the Nutrition Clinic of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics in collaboration with the Women Development Cell (WDC) of Al Shifa College of Arts & Science. The event aimed to promote optimal infant nutrition and maternal health within the local community.
The outreach was actively led and facilitated by 3rd-semester B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics students. The awareness session commenced at 10:30 AM with active participation from local lactating mothers, pregnant women, Anganwadi workers, and community members. The educational sessions were led by 3rd-semester students Ms. Raniya and Ms. Shahala. Ms. Raniya presented on key nutritional guidelines for nursing mothers, detailing the nutritional composition of breast milk, the crucial role of colostrum, and daily dietary recommendations needed to sustain health and lactation.
Following this, Ms. Shahala addressed the physiological and psychological benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child, focusing on immunity enhancement, proper latching techniques, and post-partum wellness. The students conducted interactive, face-to-face counseling with attending mothers, addressing common myths, dietary restrictions, and breastfeeding challenges. The extension activity successfully enhanced local awareness surrounding exclusive breastfeeding while offering practical field communication experience to the student organizers.
