The inaugural of Centre for Development English Language Skills, under Dept of English at  Al Shifa College of Arts and Science was inaugurated on 12 November 2020, Thursday by Dr.  Madhavan Punnappurath, Former  Professor of EFLU,  Hyderabad.

Ms. Saritha Mahesh, Head of the Dept of English delivered the welcome address. Dr. P K Babu, Principal spoke about the wide range of services going to be extended by CDELS in his address. Dr. Madhavan delivered a lecture on “English in the Global Context: Challenges and Opportunities for Youth of India” with a presentation. He exhorted the listeners to learn the language effortlessly and unintentionally by listening and reading. He also urged them  to focus on accuracy than fluency., and added that fluency without accuracy wont serve any purpose. Internet has brought in lots of opportunities for the youth of today to submerge themselves in the English language. But care needs to be taken to ensure that we pick the good language models to follow.

There were 45 participants in the programme.
