Report on the Inaugural function of Add-on Course, “Certificate Programme in Communicative English” and Invited Talk on “Better English for Better Opportunities” held on 30th Nov. 2020

The first add on course under CDELS at Alshifa College of Arts and Science, “Certificate Programme in Communicative English” was inaugurated on 30th November 2020 by Dr. Ronita Roy, Associate Professor, Bangabasi Morning College, Kolkata. Ms. Saritha Mahesh, Head, dept of English, commenced the program at 10.30 am. Dr. P. K Babu in the Principal’s address talked about the current demands for job aspirants that necessitated the inception of such a course. Rinshi Nasri, a first semester BA Functional English (FE) student, welcomed the audience and Dheena, another student from the same batch, introduced the speaker. The speaker congratulated the Department for this endeavour and delivered a talk on “Better English for Better Opportunities”. She talked about the importance of developing presentation skills, critical thinking skills and competency in the registers that are particular to different fields. Students actively participated in the interactive session that followed. Shalikh, a first semester BA FE student, delivered the vote of thanks. All the students from the college and teachers from other colleges participated in the program.
