Aims and Objectives

Mission:

The mission of the English Club is to facilitate the improvement of spoken English proficiency among students from various departments through participation in accessible and enjoyable activities. We aim to cultivate a relaxed and supportive environment conducive to English communication. Our objective is to foster an appreciation for literature and language, thereby nurturing students’ interest in linguistic pursuits. Additionally, we endeavour to equip students with both general English proficiency and industry-specific language skills essential for academic and professional success.

Vision:

Our vision is to establish the English Club as a pivotal resource for students seeking to enhance their spoken English abilities. We aspire to create a welcoming atmosphere where students feel comfortable practicing English conversation through engaging activities. We aim to instill a passion for literature and language exploration, inspiring a lifelong commitment to linguistic growth. Furthermore, we envision graduates equipped not only with strong English language skills but also with the adaptability and fluency required to excel in diverse academic and professional contexts.


1. Word Hunt – 21st October 2025

The English Club of Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, Kizhattoor, Perinthalmanna, organized an event at 12:00 P.M. in Lecture Hall 3. Conducted by Ms. Riya from the Department of English, the program was an interactive and educational activity aimed at enhancing students’ vocabulary, logical thinking, and teamwork through a clue-based treasure hunt across various campus locations. Coordinated with the support of Nafisathul Misriya M P, the event successfully combined learning with fun, promoting creativity, collaboration, and linguistic curiosity among participants.


Week Observance on Virginia Woolf : 19th January 2026 to 23rd January 2026

he Department of English, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, organized a five-day Virginia Woolf Week Observance from 19 January to 23 January 2026 across venues including Lecture Halls 22 and 23 and the Conference Room. Day 1 (19 January, 12:00 P.M., Lecture Hall 23) began with a quiz on Virginia Woolf in collaboration with the Quiz Club, coordinated by Ms. Riya, aimed at enhancing students’ knowledge of her life and works. Day 2 (20 January, 12:00 noon, Conference Room) featured a student presentation on “Professions for Women,” exploring Woolf’s feminist ideas. Day 3 included a documentary screening and discussion session in Lecture Hall 22, focusing on Woolf’s life, modernist techniques, and literary impact. Day 4 was marked by a panel discussion on her major works and themes such as feminism, stream of consciousness, and identity, encouraging critical thinking among students. Day 5 (11:30 A.M., Lecture Hall 23) concluded the observance with student presentations on “Shakespeare’s Sister Speaks” from A Room of One’s Own, followed by a reflective note by Ms. Riya, successfully bringing the week-long academic programme to a meaningful close.

World Poetry Day Celebration – 5 March 2026

he English Club in collaboration with the Library Council of Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, Keezhattur, Perinthalmanna, organized a World Poetry Day celebration on 5 March 2026 at 12:00 PM in Lecture Hall 12. The programme was a literary and cultural event aimed at promoting appreciation for poetry and creative expression. It included poetry writing and recitation of both renowned and original poems by students, covering themes such as nature, love, life, and social issues. The event successfully encouraged creativity, confidence, and engagement with poetry as a meaningful form of artistic and emotional expression.
