Report on Strategies to Learn for Exam, a Session organised by the Remedial Coaching Centre (RCC) for Selected Students at Seminar Hall on 31 December 2022 at 10.30 AM

A session for selected students was conducted under the aegis of the Remedial Coaching Centre at the Seminar Hall on 31 January 2022 at 10. 30 AM. Students of first semester BA Functional English, BA Economics, BCom Tax and BCom Finance classes, who were identified as slow learners benefited from the session. Ms. Renjitha. K. R, Assistant Professor of English handled the session in which she conveyed reliable techniques to students to prepare for exams. In the beginning, she asked the students to do a self evaluation to understand where they stand when it comes to studies and asked them to think of the goals they hope to achieve in this area. Following that, she said that the students find themselves to be greatly distracted while studying. She suggested that the students can ‘take the driving seat’ of their education and take ownership of their studies. She introduced the technique to ‘Practice’, in which students can try to learn for 10 minutes once in a while without distractions. This would help them to focus more while preparing for exams. It was pointed out that a healthy diet, staying hydrated and sleeping well have an enormous impact on one’s ability to learn.

Ms. Renjitha suggested that it would help the students if they connect with the lessons personally rather than considering them remote subjects which do not affect them. She further gave ideas as to how to tackle a completely new topic/concept. Tips for time management were also mentioned. She added that the ‘Ask and Answer Technique’ would help the students to revise their lessons. What can be done when a student feels stuck with a topic was also discussed. Referring back to previous topics and revising them would build one’s confidence and the students can come back to the topics with which they are stuck. A question and answer session followed. The session came to an end at 11.15 AM.
