Report of Seminar on Carbon Neutral Practices for campuses, on 03 December 2021.

Nature Club in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science organised a seminar on Carbon Neutral Practices for campuses in collaboration with Department of Zoology, DGMMES College, Mampad on 03 December 2021. The seminar was led by Mrs. Sajidha Muhammed, Research Scholar, Department of Zoology, DGMMES College, Mampad. The session commenced at 10.00 am with a welcome address by Mr. Rohith Ravi, Coordinator, IQAC. Dr. P. K Babu, Principal, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, addressed the gathering.
Mrs. Sajidha Muhammed explained about the importance of carbon neutral practices for the campuses. Nature is a gift that has to be passed on to the next generation. But the situation is difficult by the action of human and technological development, she expressed in her presentation. We cannot create a purely carbon free environment, but by minimalizing the production of carbon, we can neutralise the situation, she added.
And she suggested many ways to reduce the production of carbon, such as unplugging unused electronics to minimize standby power consumption, adding solar panels to the campus, or switching to an electric. Achieving carbon neutrality means that that carbon dioxide output has a net neutral impact on the environment, and it can help stem the effects of climate change. Wind power, nuclear power, hydropower, solar power, and geothermal are the energy sources with the lowest life-cycle emissions, which includes deployment and operations. Switch to LED lightbulbs, encourage and support green campus activities. The students and faculty members of different colleges from Kerala participated in the session. The session ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Irshad. K, Nature Club Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Arabic.
