An online presentation on ‘Improve Your Speaking Skills’, was organized jointly by CDELS (Centre for Development of English Language Skills), Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, and Lingua Hub (Language Club), Peace Public School, Vengara on 16 Oct ’21. The session was handled by Ms. Saritha. K, Head, Dept. of English, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, and the platform relied on was Microsoft Teams. The event commenced at 4 pm with a welcome note by Imaan Jouhar of 4th grade, Peace Public School, followed by the invocation of verses from Quran. Mr. Jasmir Faizal, Principal, Peace Public School, differentiated English from the rest of the subjects and pointed out that to learn a language, a set of skills are to be inculcated. Such skills would aid them at the career front, he added. The audience comprising of students from 4th to 8th grade commented, involved and interacted very actively throughout the session when Saritha walked them through the basics of speaking skills with the help of stories, pictures and activities. There was an online survey held to assess what held them back from speaking the language. Most of the students admitted that it was lack of vocabulary that prevented them from communicating effectively. She shared with the students a few tips to be followed to enhance their vocabulary. The participants were also motivated to speak on topics selected at random by providing them with set of words that would suit the topic. The session was closed at 6.30 pm with a vote of thanks by Mishabul Basheer, the Head Boy and student of Grade 8. Ms. Fabeela, Vice -Principal felicitated the occasion. Ms. Hanna Shaboom and Mr. Kaleelullah, the faculty members and programme coordinators, controlled the overall event.
