In connection with the observance of National Nutrition Month (Rashtriya Poshan Maah), the final-year students of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, under the aegis of the Nutri-Nourish Club of Al Shifa College of Arts and Science and in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), successfully organized and conducted a community outreach extension program titled “EATRIX 1.0: Geriatric Nutritional Assessment and Awareness Session” on 14 September 2026 at Salva Care Home, Moorippadam, Pandikkad.

The initiative was meticulously spearheaded by the final-year cohort to gain vital field exposure while addressing the unique physiological, nutritional, and emotional needs of elderly residents. The program commenced with a heartwarming ice-breaking session where the students greeted the senior inmates with fresh red roses, establishing an atmosphere of warmth, respect, and mutual joy. Drawing upon their clinical coursework, the final-year students carried out comprehensive one-on-one nutritional assessments, evaluating individual dietary habits, appetite fluctuations, physical difficulties, and chronic health concerns to deliver practical, empathetic guidance on adequate hydration and balanced, easy-to-digest nutrition.

Translating academic learning into meaningful social commitment, the department collected an amount of ₹4,500 through contributions from faculty and students, which was officially handed over to the care home authorities to help support the food and dietary requirements of the residents, making the outreach a fulfilling blend of experiential learning, clinical practice, and compassionate service.
