The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, successfully conducted a Reading Forum for the 5th Semester B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics students on 23 July 2026.The programme was organized with the objective of promoting reading habits, enhancing scientific knowledge, and encouraging students to explore emerging topics in nutrition and health.

The session was presented by Ms. Shifna K.S,a 5th Semester B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics student, on the topic “Jamun Seeds and Their Nutritional Significance.”The presentation highlighted the nutritional composition of jamun seeds, including their dietary fiber, polyphenols, flavonoids, tannins, essential minerals, and other bioactive compounds that contribute to their therapeutic potential.

The presenter discussed the various health benefits of jamun seeds, with particular emphasis on their role in supporting blood glucose regulation, improving digestive health, providing antioxidant protection, and promoting overall metabolic health. The session also explored the traditional and contemporary uses of jamun seed powder as a functional food ingredient and emphasized the importance of incorporating evidence-based knowledge into nutritional practice.
