The Department of English, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, organized an Invited Student Talk on 30 July 2026 at 11.00 a.m. in the Conference Hall. The programme was conducted with the objective of exposing students to contemporary literary research and encouraging academic discussion through peer presentations.

Ms. Ummu Naval Muneefa, First Semester B.A. English Language and Literature, welcomed the gathering. The resource persons for the session were Ms. Safna and Ms. Farshana A. P., Fourth Semester M.A. English students from Noble Women’s College, Manjeri.

Ms. Safna delivered a presentation on “Geopoetics as an Expansion of Intellectual Cosmos: A Poetic Analysis through Urban, Marine and Cosmic Lenses.” Her talk explored the concept of geopoetics by examining the relationship between poetry, space, and the environment. She discussed how urban, marine, and cosmic landscapes contribute to expanding intellectual and imaginative perspectives in literary studies.

The second presentation was delivered by Ms. Farshana A. P. on “Posthuman Motherhood and Ethics of Care: Reimagining Maternal Identity in I Am Mother and After Yang.” The session focused on posthumanist perspectives on motherhood and care ethics, analysing how the selected science fiction films redefine maternal identity and human-machine relationships in the context of technological advancement.

Both presentations were followed by an interactive discussion session in which students actively participated by raising questions and sharing observations. The speakers responded thoughtfully, making the session intellectually engaging and enriching for the audience.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Fathima Hiba, First Semester B.A. English Language and Literature, expressing gratitude to the invited speakers for sharing their valuable insights and to all the participants for their enthusiastic involvement. The event successfully fostered academic exchange and inspired students to explore emerging areas of literary research.
