The add-on Certificate Programme on Accent Training was offered to the fourth semester B. A. Functional English Students at Al Shifa College of Arts and Science. It was meant to reduce the effect of the first language in speaking English with the students and help them and thereby improve their English pronunciation. The various modules were designed to equip the students with the right way of pronouncing the commonly mispronounced words and letters.

The modules were delivered to the students by the Department of English, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science collaborating with the PG and Research Department, Vimala College (Autonomous), Thrissur. The sessions were held as a part of the MoU signed between the two colleges. The modules on basics phonetics, connected speech, word stress and sentence stress, were handled by the faculties of the department of English of Al Shifa College of Arts and Science.

Following an online session with a duration of five hours on 5 & 6 May 2022, a one-day face-to-face session at Vimala College in Thrissur was held on 15 June 2022. The session was presented by Ms. Sheeba Thattil, retired faculty of Vimala College and an expert in the subject. She started the at 9.30 am with the different dialects of the English Language and then moved on to International Phonetic Alphabet and Received Pronunciation. Stress, pitch and intonation were the other important topics discussed in the session. The students were provided material in advance and during the session they were asked to pronounce the words given in it. Ms. Sheeba then corrected the mispronounced words and asked the students to repeat the words. The session was an interactive one.

The 12 students in fifth Semester B. A. Functional English were accompanied by Ms. Saritha. K, Head, Dept. of English and Mr. Midhulaj. P, Assistant Professor of English, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, to the venue. The students attended the session at Chomsky Convergence Center. Dr. Nisha Francis Alappat, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of English, Vimala College (Autonomous), Trissur, gave a cordial welcome. The session was concluded with feedback from Mohamed Shalikh and Basila Sherin. A, students from final year B.A Functional English.
