Report on Reading Day programme ‘Ente Vayana: Vidyarthikalude Pusthakavalokanam’ conducted on 12 July 2021 via Gmeet.

Thanimalayalam Club, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science, conducted the programme , ‘Ente Vayana: Vidyarthikalude Pusthakavalokanam’, in connection with Reading Day during the academic year 2020-2021, to cultivate in-depth reading among students. The programme commenced at 10.30 am via Gmeet on 12 July 2021.

Deena. P of I BA Functional English shared her experience of reading the book, The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernest Hemingway. She commented that the book is a simple yet inspiring one. Jassir Hussain of I BCom Finance, shared the feelings of nostalgia that popped up in his mind on reading O.V. Vijayan’s Kaatu Paranha Kadha. He opined that, in the current generation, where familial ties are losing its significance, such a story has great relevance. Muhammed Basith of I BA Economics introduced Benyamin’s Aadujeevitham which says the story of an abused migrant worker, to the students. He said that the novel absorbs us with its way of narration. The novel depicts three years of suffering and hardships faced by the protagonist of the novel Najeeb. Muhammed Anshif of B Com Taxation, introduced the short story Biriyani, written by Santhosh Echikkanam. The story is about a young man named Gopal Yadav who came to Kerala in search of work due to poverty and also about the lavish weddings in the Malabar region.
The program was organized by the Thanimalayam Club in collaboration with English Club with an aim of developing the reading habits of the students and providing a platform for them to share their reading experiences. The program would be continued as a series, to provide opportunities to more students.
The session ended with a vote of thanks by Thanimalayalam Club coordinator, Ms. Febina. K.
